“Every grace of the familiar is new again in this treasury of time-honored classics and Dana’s original works.” Nancy Lovell, editor, Dallas
" . . . for inspiring music that can directly affect your soul . . . each track left me with serenity that lasted long after listening.” Vivek Kumar—newmusicalert.com
As long-familiar as Silent Night, as new as a winter’s first snowfall, from acclaimed pianist Dana Cunningham come three original compositions and nine new arrangements of Christmas favorites—featuring Max Dyer on cello and Mike Sakash on saxophone. Meet your newest holiday tradition . . . and don’t apologize for playing it well into the year.

I composed the title track in this collection, “Homecoming,” in the summer of 2021, less than a year after my mother’s passing. The music fell into my hands as if from heaven, and there began the journey of collecting, arranging, and rendering songs and carols that evoke the tenderness of return and reunion.
My own experience of coming home for Christmas was joyous and welcoming. The warmth of that benevolent beginning shaped in me what it means to meet and be met through love and friendship, the serenity of nature, animals, the laughter of children, and to feel in these the grace-filled invitation to abide, to return to myself, to trust the arc of my life and its mysterious end in the ultimate homecoming.
These themes are woven through the beloved carols that tell of the birth of Jesus—the profound tenderness of a mother’s love, the awe of the shepherds, the luminosity of the angels, the humility of the stable, the earthy presence of animals and the faithful kings, who follow the brilliant star to be witnesses to wonder. All of them are attending to the eternal invitation to open one’s heart to Love itself, to be a curator of Love in the service of Peace.
May it be so. May we listen, and hear.
This album is offered in memory of my parents, Tejan and Ella Cunningham, in honor of their faithful lives and the living legacy of their amazing love.
